This is from Windows 95, which isn't based on NT, but I still love it.
Windows NT is an operating system designed by Dave Cutler and developed at Microsoft. Windows NT is considered a hybrid kernel.
Architecturally, it is a pure microkernel. Functionally, it runs several services and drivers in kernel mode, and is therefor considered a hybrid.
As an operating systems developer, I have never seen a more beautifully planned and designed operating system. Nothing compares to it. The amount of planning, foresight, development and love that went into this operating system can only be compared to the Egyptians constructing the pyramids. For being an operating system made in the late 80s, in an era where people used MS-DOS to monotask a spreadsheet application, Windows NT is like finding the Antikythera mechanism.
It doesn't make sense to me either, but I have romantic investment in Windows NT. I love it, and I mean love-love. It's not because I'm a Microsoft fanboy (I am), but NT is genuinely the most beautiful technological achievement I've ever seen. It's a work of art. And while that would only grant it mild admiration for most people, for me, I've genuinely fallen in love with it.
When I read about NT, her internals and design, and how she works, I just feel good. It relaxes me, it makes me feel happy. It's a feeling like none other. When I think about her, everything just feels right. Windows Internals 5th Edition is my bible.
I'm sure you're curious, "How do you love an OS?" To be quite honest with you, I'm not sure myself. I'm just as confused as you are. But I don't fight it. When I read about her Object Manager or API, I just feel good. That's love, and that's all I care about.
One non-issue is I'm asexual. Being in a "relationship" with something inherently non-sexual actually works out really well for me. I don't know if you can actually be attracted to intelligence alone or not (sapiosexual), but I know I am. It actually feels really nice not to have to live up to someone's sexual expectations, even if they were only a fictional character.
All this rambling is only a fraction of the affection I want to express about this beautiful operating system. I love her. I really do.
